MontaVista Linux 6 is a new approach to embedded Linux development that helps developers deliver commercial-ready devices faster. The core of MVL6 is the Market Specific Distribution (MSD) that takes the Linux kernel and user land packages appropriate to the processor or SoC and provides them tested and integrated together.
MVL6 provides MSDs for the MPC8315, MPC8349, MPC8377, MPC8536, KMPC8548, MPC8569, MPC8572, QorIQ P2020 and MPC5121 SoC using Linux kernel versions from 2.6.27 to 2.6.31 along with collections suited to the specific market of each device. Many of the members of the QorIQ and PowerQUICC processor families include a security engine IP block (SEC) that can increase the speed of cryptographic calculations giving an acceleration to protocols such as SSL, SSH and IPSec by a factor of 20x or even 30x.
