The "Pronghorn"

Intel IXP425 802.11 OEM Application Platform

ADI Engineering's Pronghorn gives 802.11 OEMs and VARs a flexible, low-cost product platform based on the Intel® IXP425™ family of network processors that can be used to immediately deploy custom products incorporating 802.11 WLAN technology - enterprise grade access devices, monitoring and diagnostic equipment, spectrum management and QoS devices, and ruggedized industrial access points. In most cases, no further hardware or software development or certification is required, but ADI has the ability to rapidly customize Pronghorn to accommodate unique applications at low cost. VARs can use Pronghorn as a privately labeled enterprise-grade AP with a customized user interface, at a fraction of the price of competitive solutions.

With Pronghorn, ADI profoundly accelerates time to market while offering the latest technology and flexible OEM branding, manufacturing and licensing options. Not simply a reference design, Pronghorn is a turnkey 802.11 OEM platform, complete with the bundled Devicescape (formerly Instant802 Networks) Wi-Fi pre-certified Self-Managed Access Point (SMAP) or Enterprise Managed Access Point (EMAP) embedded application software, enclosure, safety and emissions certifications, Linux BSP, and manufacturing test software. And Pronghorn can readily be used to deploy your custom 802.11 functionality by augmenting the Devicescape applications or by using your own application. An unused MiniPCI slot allows a second radio, your own custom radio, or other peripherals to be integrated easily.

Optimized for low-cost and designed for volume manufacturability, Pronghorn is available as a high-volume OEM product starting at $174 ( Contact us) for further details), or in single unit quantities for $999 as a complete 802.11a/b/g development and evaluation kit including comprehensive technical support from ADI.

Pronghorn WLAN Features from Devicescape
Pronghorn features a complete, optional Wi-Fi pre-certified embedded software solution from Devicescape that zeroes in on security, ease-of-administration and standards compliance - providing a standalone and fully secured wireless network without the need for additional management applications or special wired switches. Software can be readily customized or integrated with your own code to provide a comprehensive software solution. Alternately, use custom or other third-party applications if desired.

Security Features:
• All the latest security standards to keep your data safe, including 802.1x, WPA, WPA2 Enterprise & Personal, 802.11i, WEP, PEAP and AES
• Segregated and secure wireless guest network - for example, visitors to your offices can access the Internet at your site but not any of your internal networked resources
• Wireless "virtual networks" and guest traffic can be mapped to VLANs or to separate physical Ethernet networks for added security
• Integrated and embedded user authentication technology enabling 802.1x username-password access control with internal RADIUS server or external RADIUS server pass-through.
• Additional security features that keep your overall wireless network safe, including inhibiting/ignoring SSID broadcasts, VLAN support, AP detection, and secure admin log-in.

Configuration and administration are automated, eliminating the need for IT expertise to enjoy the benefits of a wireless network. This includes:
• Plug-and-play, single step AP setup
• Pre-configuration of default parameters for the secure wireless guest network
• Automated AP so that clustered operation is as simple as single AP operation, featuring: - Auto-detection of self-managed APs
- Automated AP channel coordination across the wireless network
- Automated roaming
- Load balancing
- Automatic configuration, security, and user authentication database updates across cluster
- Universal view and administration of clustered APs via an integrated UI
