The Open Graphics Library (OpenGL) is a standard specification defining a cross-language, cross-platform API for writing applications that produce 2D and 3D graphics. OpenGL enables software developers to create high-performance visually compelling applications.

For embedded systems there are two related standards OpenGL ES and OpenGL SC. OpenGL ES is a cross platform API for devices including consoles, phones and appliances and contains a subset of the full OpenGL standard. OpenGL SC is defined to meet the needs of safety critical industrial, military and avionics applications.


The OpenGL standards are maintained by the Khronos Group and SDC Systems supply hardware device driver solutions for OpenGL ES and OpenGL SC from ALT Software and an OpenGL software renderer from IData Visual Systems all of which are certifiable to DO-178B level A.

OpenGL hardware GPU solutions

ALT Software provide a range of software products for embedded computing environments that lower cost and shorten development time for manufacturers and system integrators. Their software products include high performance OpenGL display driver kits for both safety-critical and general purpose environments.

These kits have platform independent architectures that support a variety of processor, RTOS, and graphics chip combinations.
